Foundation Course

Next Session: TBA

The fundamental requirement of film and television actors is to have an active “inner life” on screen. This intense six week course is designed to awaken that inner life and give the actor the ability to utilize it effectively. We work with a monologue that has been given to the actor in advance. Every session all participants will participate in the process of bringing the pieces to life. Filming the pieces will take place in the final weeks of the course. Along the way we will also cover adjusting to frame sizes, hitting your mark, and the physical adjustments necessary to allow the camera to capture the thoughts of the actor. This course is perfect for people new to acting or for experienced actors new to camera work.

Maximum 10 students per class. 18 hours of class time.

We will be meeting weekly and going for six weeks. Classes are held at the Fraser Studios, 115 Danforth Avenue, Suite 203. Payments and schedule is TBA.

David is incomparable! His classes keep me on my toes, my creativity sparkling, and my awareness constantly expanded! I’m so grateful for the constant insights that he shares during his classes, and the unique feedback and genuine guidance he provides. He is one you can trust, and always creates a positive environment. David is an exceptionally talented individual and is constantly making an immense impact on my development as an actor and an individual!

Adrienne Kennedy, Actor

David creates an environment rich of passion, inspiration and excitement. the most important thing is that every person in the room, including David feels safe with one another. Safe to experiment, safe to fail and fall hard, and safe to get up and give it another go, and perhaps not fail as hard as the previous time. This is how the magic happens. Unfortunately Some of my best theatre has happened in David's class, and not on stage. But my stage performance skills and auditions have vastly improved. Although there has been a noticeably improvement in my acting skills, the reason i keep coming back is because of the fun i have while learning.

Victoria Danyluk, Actor

David Matheson is quite possibly the most inspirational teacher I have ever had. He not only has a vast knowledge of both acting and directing, but he also knows how to teach. Wisdom and experience are complemented by his ability to pass on the knowledge in an understandable way. I am proud to say that I have been both taught, and directed by him. I highly recommend David to aspiring and established actors alike.

The Actor’s Exchange

NEXT SESSION: TBA

One of the difficulties with the business of acting is that there are long periods where nothing seems to happen. Just as a musician or athlete must keep sharp if they are to develop their talent, so must an actor if they are to be prepared for the rigors of the next gig. The Actor’s Exchange is designed to meet the needs of past students and colleagues who want to continually hone their talents, challenge each other as artists, and stay disciplined and focused in pursuit of their dreams. In our sessions we will cover a variety of topics necessary to a career including auditioning technique, scene study, monologue preparation, improvisation, Shakespeare, and acting for the camera.

Maximum 10 students per class. 18 hours of class time.

We will be meeting weekly and going for six weeks. Classes are held at the Fraser Studios, 115 Danforth Avenue, Suite 203. Payments and schedule is TBA.

David is able to articulate his process. As a director and teacher he is able to bring out the best performances in his actors. His enthusiasm is contagious, his creativeness and insight inspiring. Actors who work and learn from David find him to be fair, honest, knowledgeable and approachable.

Samantha Wilson-Tyrrell, Director Neptune Theatre School

David creates a supportive environment for me to practice my craft of acting. He's perceptive of his students individual needs and challenges them to go where they wouldn't have thought of before. His coaching, artistic as well as practical 'business' advice, has helped me pursue my career goals with confidence and great openness.
